Week 3 Term 4

  EXCURSION On Monday the 16 th of November, we will be heading out of the classroom for a big day of learning about our wonderful Cape.   Our excursion will be lead by local custodian of the land, Josh Whiteland.   He will lead us on the “Cape Cultural Experience.” We will experience a “Welcome to Country” then an easy guided walk (~2.5km) around the tip of the cape, learning about local flora and fauna along the way. On arrival at the “Meeting Place”, we will enjoy local Dreaming stories, view an artefacts & tool display, followed by an interactive didgeridoo music session. We will also take part in the “ Ship wrecks and Settlers ” guided tour where we will learn about the importance of our area for early settlers.   We will step back in time on a guided tour of the lighthouse and precinct, learning about the first inhabit ants, colonial settlement and the lives of the lighthouse keepers and families in this once isolated outpost. Week 2 Term 4

  We have had a fabulous start to Term 4 and have been especially focused in Religion on learning about our Term 4 School Value of Excellence. We have uncovered that it means more than producing work of an "excellent" standard.  It can be the little things that you do throughout the day that   that can show we are living this value. We wrote a list of 10 things that require 0 talent and are going to try to develop these qualities this term as they are qualities that school leaders should possess. We have enjoyed reading the first few chapters of Wonder and have formed book club groups, where we will use our comprehension skills to “dig deeply” into the book.    We will also be on the hunt for figurative language that the author uses.    So far we have learnt about similes and have located several in only the first few chapters!    We are making a class display of these as we find them. Week 1 Term 4

  Welcome back to another amazingly busy term of learning and fun in 5H!  We hope you had a lovely relaxing break from alarm clocks, lunchboxes and uniforms!! OUR LEARNING IN TERM 4 Reading: Our focus for Term 4 is the incredible story, WONDER, written by R.J. Palacio.  A big thank you to the P&F for buying our class set of novels and to Mary Lee Kemp for accessioning and covering the books ready for us to lend at the end of Term 3.  Hopefully, your child read some of the story over the holidays.   The pages they are required to read each week will be numbered on their weekly Homework Grid.  We will be rereading sections in class to continue developing our reading comprehension skills, learn new vocabulary and explore how the author uses figurative language. Writing: This term our focus genre is Information Reports.  As the children enjoyed writing their explanations on the human body last term, we have decided to continue this theme with their research and report writing b
