PARENT REPS Our sincerest apologies go out to Kristie Chapman who also put her hand up to be our Year 5H parent rep, along with Krishna Taylor and Caroline Moylan.  I misread an email Kristie sent and failed to realise that she too was volunteering for the role and had been responsible for recruitment!  Our huge appreciation goes out to this trio! LENT We came together as a whole school on Wednesday to mark the beginning of Lent with a lovely prayer service led by the Year 6s. Throughout Lent we are encouraged to pray for others, fast (give up something that we enjoy) and participate in almsgiving (giving to those in need). In 5H, the children have nominated one thing for each area (Pray, Fast, Give) that they are going to try and do over the next 40 days.  These are on display in our classroom.  We encourage you to discuss your child's choices with them and assist them in finding a time during their day to pray for their intention. WEEK 3....Yipppeeeeeee!!!!! Firstly, our huge appreciation goes out to Krishna Taylor (Shaye's Mum) and Caroline Moylan (Ellie's mum) who will be our 5H's class reps for 2020... thank you lovely ladies!  The highlight of Week 3 was definitely the swimming trials!  We were so proud of the children's determination to compete at whatever swimming level they are at.... everyone gave their 100% effort and loved getting wet!  Of course, the bus trip there and back was a tonne of fun with plenty of games of Spotto and Eye Spy! LEARNING in 5H ENGLISH We have been enjoying our reading groups over the last couple of weeks.  We collaboratively named our groups after super heroes... in 5H "Reading is our Super Power"!  The reading comprehension strategies we have focused on so far are ‘Summarising’ and 'Making Connections'.  Next week we will practice our inference skills.  Shout out to Joe, the class photographer this week, for capturing ou

Week 2 in Review! PARENT NIGHT Thank you to those parents who were able to attend our parent evening.  The previous blog post contains a link to our presentation.  If you have any remaining questions please pop in and see us in class (after school preferable) or send us an email.  We hope you enjoyed sharing your child's Growth Mindset booklet with them.  They are all so motivated to "train their brains" to be positive and resilient with their learning this year! We are still looking for our two class reps. If you are interested, please let us know. BUDDY READING A highlight of this week was the last 15 minutes of Wednesday afternoon, where we met our Pre-Primary buddies from Mrs Birch's class. The Year 5s each greeted a "little buddy" and read a picture book to their new friend.   Our buddy time is a fabulous way for the Year 5s to begin to develop their leadership skills as they model being healthy role models for our young pres.

Week 1 in Review! What a fabulous first week we had in 5H and what a wonderful year of learning we can look forward to! During the week, to take photos for our Birthday Chart display, we found out who was born in the same month as us. Lucy and Mr Torrese found out they were birthday twins, both being born on the 17 th    of  February! The children have loved taking responsibility for their new iHelp jobs.    Special Shoutout to DJ L&L (Lucy and Laura) for being brave enough to be the first class DJs to share their favourite songs with us.    The DJ job is a way we can build trust in 5H where everyone can be free to share their choice of song without being judged.    It’s going to be great to hear everyone’s favourite type of music in the week’s ahead. Luca was our first “Earth Child” and didn’t forget once to turn the lights out and close the doors each time we left the room to help us with our sustainability. The iHelp jobs will change each Monday and if your chi
