T o our a mazing 5H families! Thank you for all your ongoing support during this difficult and uncharted time.  We have really appreciated your emails of support and kindness (and coffee that was sent in on Wednesday morning....you know who you are!!).  To th ose of you that have experienced a week of home learning we congratulate you! To those that will be embarking on their first week next week, please be easy on yourself - keep in mind that teachers are trained for years and have had many years practice.  We do not expect you to replicate the same overnight.  We couldn't possibly take over your job overnight and we know and understand that it will be difficult for you to do ours, especially when your child sees you as their parent rather than their "teacher" (even though you have been that from the moment they were born!!!)  Let us support you when you need ... W e are only ever an email away with any questions or concerns that you ha ve.  Please note :  If

To all our 5H families, A HUGE big air hug goes out to  everyone who has made the decision to home school.   I wasn't at school today as I was on parental leave to care for my daughters Lucy and Emily who have head colds.  The class had Alison Martin for their relief teacher who worked through the lessons that I sent in to ensure the class  continued  with their normal timetable and learning!  With most of you staying at home it has made it easier for "social distancing" and the children were spread out around the class.    OUR LEARNING ENGLISH   Here are some snapshots of our Narrative Writing from last week and some peer editing where our  buddies gave us feedback on our writing.  We are continuing to be authors this week, ensuring our narratives have a hook, character and setting descriptions and a plot that works toward creating a climax and resolution.         Our Reading comprehension strategy this week is Skimming and Scanning.  This is an importan

SWIMMING LESSONS We had an amazing week of swimming lessons in old Dunsborough with the weather being so kind.   Thank you for supporting your child with being organised each day. The routine remains the same for this week's lessons  (see the blog from Week 5). PRAYER ASSEMBLY CANCELLED Please note our Harmony Day Prayer Assembly set for this Friday the 20th of March has been cancelled due to our school's proactive ap proach towards the  COVID-19 virus. 5H have upped our hand washing before every eating break and revised thorough hand washing and coughing techniques.  To help educate ourselves on the virus we viewed the BTN New Report "Corona Virus Explained"available at   https://www.abc.net.au/btn/classroom/coronavirus-explained/11933838 which answered many of our questions. As outlined in the email from OLC admin on Sunday, if your child is sick or not feeling well, please do not send them to school.  HOME LEARNING GRID To help your c

Dear 5H Parents, As part of our compassionate and fundraising support for the Lakes Entrance community in Victoria after the tragic bush fires, we will be participating in sharing a little about ourselves and Dunsborough with the Year 5s at St Brendan's Catholic School. This act of kindness integrates with our Making Jesus Real program as well as our school value of Compassion. We will do this digitally but will not have student photos or names on the internet. I have asked the students to have a photo taken of themselves somewhere (reasonably significant) in Dunsborough or its surrounding areas. If this could either be printed out or shared digitally to your child's laptop, that would be great! This will be used to complete an info page about their hobbies and interests. Only first names will be shared with the Year 5 students at St Brendans. We will share files via a secure link to our OneDrive cloud. We hope to hear back from our pen pals later in the year.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL A big congratulations to the nine 5H members of Naturaliste who helped win the shield for the green team at Tuesday's Swimming Carnival.  It was such a happy, fun day and we had many proud moments. We also saw many examples of growth mindset in your children who were able to work through their difficult emotions of nervousness or disappointment to give their best efforts and feel happy for the winners!  Carnivals are always wonderful opportunity for this experience. A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS  to Lara and Flynn who were awarded as Champion Girl and Champion Boy swimmers for Year 5!  Incredible swimming!    Lara has had a big week as she also displayed her talents on stage at the Dunsborough Arts Festival X Factor.  Congrats Lara for your stellar efforts! Thank you to Michelle Kerr for snapping some fabulous photos of memories from the day!! HOMEWORK This week, homework books were set up with a modified grid (due to t
