Week 9, Term 4

 Week 9, Term 4!  Great job on making it to week nine guys. Only a few more days to go and the kids will be soaking up that Summer Sun.  What a great term we have had. I honestly feel so blessed to have worked with your children this term. They are a brilliant bunch of souls who are going to soar in Grade Six.  Just a couple of reminders for this week.  Christmas Concert : As mentioned previously, the Christmas Concert is taking place this Tuesday 7th December. It commences at 6pm, so please  ensure that your child comes to class by 5.40pm.  As a class we will walk down together and into our places, while you can find a nice spot on the hill to settle back and enjoy the show. Week 9 Term 3

Hi 5H families, There are some important updates and reminders for you in this week’s blog:   CLAY MAKING A huge thank you to Sasha Boundy (Esmerelda’s mum and  “Made By the Sea”  pottery creator ) for being our guest artist for our second attempt at making pottery bowls.   Sasha showed some of her failures and successes and then modelled a step-by-step process for us to follow. The class displayed great growth mindset after attempt number one, learning from their mistakes and accepting the challenge to try again.   They are all so proud of their efforts.   Their pottery pieces are now on their way to be fired in the kiln at Happ's Pottery and will return to us before the end of the term for us to glaze (finger crossed all in one piece!).   Sasha has once again offered to assist us with the glazing process and her expertise is much appreciated. Term 4 Week 7

  The following recount was written collaboratively by Paige, Georgia, Flynn,  Tieg, Justin, Jasper, Jeremy, Joe, Mahley and Noah. It is Part One of our Cape Naturaliste Experience!!   On Monday the 16 th of November we went to the historical Cape Naturalise National Park.  We travelled by bus and it took 11 minutes to get to this magnificent location!       First of all, we met Josh Whiteland, who is a Wardandi Custodian of the local region.  Wardandi means “forest people by the sea.” He calls the land "country".  Aboriginal people see “country” as being like a mother.  It gives to them what they need and protects them.  Respect of country is the backbone of Noongar people. Josh learned all of his knowledge from Aboriginal elders in our region.  He encouraged us to make a “connection to country” where we can become “cultural custodians” thus developing our own identity and sense of belonging to the place in w...
