Term 1 Week 9

To our amazing 5H families!

Thank you for all your ongoing support during this difficult and uncharted time.  We have really appreciated your emails of support and kindness (and coffee that was sent in on Wednesday morning....you know who you are!!).

To those of you that have experienced a week of home learning we congratulate you!
To those that will be embarking on their first week next week, please be easy on yourself - keep in mind that teachers are trained for years and have had many years practice.  We do not expect you to replicate the same overnight.  We couldn't possibly take over your job overnight and we know and understand that it will be difficult for you to do ours, especially when your child sees you as their parent rather than their "teacher" (even though you have been that from the moment they were born!!!)  Let us support you when you need ... We are only ever an email away with any questions or concerns that you have.

Please noteIf you have not collected your child's workbooks (or if they are missing some!) then our classroom will be open this week for you to come and collect.  It is advantageous if they have their school workbooks to do their home learning work in so they feel the link between school and home.

RESOURCES TO COUNTERATTACK COVID 19
There is so much information out there to help us through these unprecedented days!
Two resources that I highly recommend parents taking a look at are:

Maggie Dent always has pearls of wisdom to share.

The Big Life Journal is one of my favourite websites to subscribe to as they send quality weekly free resources for growth mindset and the power of positive thinking. Their whole website is worth exploring!

DAILY SCHEDULE
We know every family's day of home learning will look different.  However, daily structure is important for your children.  They respond well to knowing what will be done and when.
I was sent the attached by one of our 5H parents (again, you know who you are!!) and think that it is helpful for structuring the day for both parents and kids.   I have made a similar template that I'm using with my two (Emily and Lucy) and am happy to share it if you think it would benefit your day.... again, it won't suit all families but if you think it will help you, email me and I will sent through the template!

LOGINS
Your child should know their Mathletics, Reading Eggs and Champion Life (I gave a big plug for Champion Life in last week's blog!!) logins.  If they don't, then please just email us and we can forward them to you.

I have also started a class page on the website "Epic".  Both reading Eggspress (available with your reading eggs log ins) and Epic, have a plethora of reading material available to your child for their "reading for pleasure" moments.  In epic, I have saved 2 books in their folder to help remind them of the importance of a positive growth mindset ... more important than ever!

Our lovely librarian, Mary-Lee Kemp, has offered bulk loans for children wanting extra library books to read whilst stuck at home (Limit of 10 per child).  You are welcome to come and select from the school library but chosen books will need to checked out with Mary-Lee.  She will be in the library during school hours on Tuesday and Wednesday to assist you with this.

INDONESIAN LEARNING AT HOME FROM MRS KARTANA
Our Indonesian teacher, Melinda Kartana, has passed on a link for students to explore many interactive Indonesian tasks that can be done at home.

She has recommended this for revision and learning of new words. Each task has instructions that tell the students what to do.  Terima kasih Melinda!

HASS LEARNING FROM MRS MEYER

Our H.A.S.S. teacher, Mrs Meyer, has asked your child to log on to the following website and use the access code to get her content for this week:
Access code: 9755
This will take them to a page which has a number of lessons on it.
The year 5 lessons looks like this:
If they click on this picture they will be taken to their lesson from Mrs Meyer and the  resources they will need are accessed if you scroll to the bottom of the page.  If you cannot print the worksheets you can replicate them in your child's Writing Book (Mrs Meyer has their H.A.S.S. books).

Thanks for your ongoing support
Kathy and Adrian
