Week 4

Welcome to Week 4 in 5H!

Once again we extend our heartfelt sympathy to our wonderful Violet and her family on the sudden death of David, Violet's Dad.  You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

In or blog this week we thought we would update you on our first couple of weeks as well as give you some reminders for this week (of special note THE SWIMMING TRIALS TOMORROW).  Please read on...

What a fabulous first fortnight we have had in 5H and what a wonderful year of learning we can look forward to!

We have found out who was born in the same month as us and took photos for our Birthday Chart.  Chloe.R. and Tiago found out they were birthday twins, both being born on the 10th of August!

The children have loved taking responsibility for their new iHelp jobs.  Special Shoutout to DJ Alexandra for being brave enough to be the first 5H DJ to share her favourite songs with us.  The DJ job is a way we can build trust in 5H where everyone can be free to share their choice of song without being judged.  It’s going to be great to hear everyone’s favourite type of music in the weeks ahead.

Elsie was our first “Earth Child” and didn’t forget once to turn the lights out and close the doors each time we left the room to help us with our sustainability. The iHelp jobs will change each Monday and if your child doesn’t have a job for the week, they will be the first to select their jobs the following week!

The Student Lottery has been successful in helping us to randomly select people for such things as the iHelp chart and teams for group work.

We set our SMART Goals for the term displayed them up on our ‘2021 Vision” display to highlight the areas we are going to put our efforts towards improving this term.

We played some fun “Getting to Know You” group games that had as practising the skills we need when working with a team.

Last Week we held a special Ash Wednesday Liturgy in class and talked about how we can prepare for Easter throughout Lent by Praying, Fasting and Giving.  You may like to ask your child what their plans are for Lent.  They are on display in class.

Congratulations to Alec who was our Award Winner last week for displaying excellent Growth Mindset and positive thinking in our first few weeks.

Week 4 REMINDERS

This Friday's 5H Assembly Postponed - Unfortunately our assembly has been postponed to later in the year. Apologies to those parents who made arrangements to be there. We'll let you know the new date in the coming weeks.

Swimming Trials - This Tuesday, the 23rd of February, we will be departing school at 9am to travel to the Geographe Leisure Centre (Busselton) for the swimming carnival time trials. We will be returning to school by lunch time.

Students will need to wear sport uniform (faction t-shirt) over their bathers. Sport shoes must be worn to school but a pair of thongs may be packed in your child's school bag to travel to and from the pool in. Students must bring in a plastic bag, a rashie, goggles, towel and a change of underwear.

Children will be taking their lunchboxes with us as Crunch and Sip and recess will be eaten at the pool. Lunch will be eaten when we return to school, therefore, if your child would like to order their lunch from the canteen they will still be able to. Please check your child has filled their water bottle on Tuesday morning.

Bushfire Drill - A bush fire evacuation drill will take place next Wednesday afternoon, 24th February. To ensure a simulated response, a time will not be released prior. Please be available, or have the emergency contact for your child ready to collect your child immediately after you receive the evacuation warning via sms next Wednesday afternoon.

All students need to be collected from their classrooms. The drive through services will not be functioning on that afternoon.

If your child will be collected by someone else during the drill, please call the school, immediately after receiving the SMS warning to inform them of who will be collecting your children.

Speaking Presentations this week are by:

Thursday: Lucas, Chloe, Freida, Xavier

Friday: Jordy, Matilda, Elsie, Jack

PAT Assessments - We will be completing these over the next couple of weeks. These assessments will help further inform our understanding of your child's learning needs, as well as guide groupings within the classroom. If we can ask that you support your child by making sure that their laptops are coming to school with sufficient charge each day and that they get a good night's rest each day to ensure they are refreshed and ready.

Homework - Our first Home Learning Grid was stuck by you child in their homework book this morning. Homework is due each Friday morning.  Please take some time to go over the grid with your child.  By Friday:

  • Please make sure your child has coloured/ticked/highlighted/written in the section to show what they have completed over the week.
  • Please make sure that you sign the section down the bottom.
  • All spelling activities are to be written neatly and corrected by you each night to ensure that their spelling words are spelt correctly and discussed if they are not.
If you have any questions about the grid, please email us or see us before school each morning.

Maths -Your child will require a calculator to work with some large numbers in Maths. If they have not brought one in already, please help them to do so before the end of this week so they are able to play our maths game: Digit Destructo!
