Term 1 Week 10

Hello 5H families!
We just thought we'd touch base with some brief messages before logging off for school holidays!  Firstly, thank you for all your efforts with home learning thus far.  We realise that everyone's "classrooms" at home will look completely different to each others!  We also understand that the amount of possible parental input will vary for each household as many of you continue to work at home (just like us!).  It is important to keep in mind that we are all working towards the one goal, which is to continue your child's learning journey.  We care about them and miss them and are only ever an email away!

Our plans and expectations for Term 2's home learning will be communicated via a blog at the end of the holidays.  As always, you will be notified when it is posted via a text message.  So until then, enjoy spending time with each other.

TOUCH TYPING PRACTICE
A question arising for our parent session on Teams last week was a recommendation for a child friendly touch typing programme.
Through investigation, Typetastic is the best free to use app to use and works on iPads and laptops:    https://typetastic.com/

Typing Tournament is another great resource but is a paid subscription.  They are currently offering at home users 5 days free access and then a 40% discount.  You can check out this option at   https://www.typingtournament.com/
URSTRONG
Our successful school based programme "Friendology" is not designed to be delivered in an isolated learning environment as our lessons involve the children sharing their thoughts, role playing scenarios and discussing ideas openly with each other.
The incredible founder of this programme, Dana Kerford, has responded to this and is still wanting to reach out and help children with their social/emotional needs throughout this time.  As our school is a URSTRONG school, Dana is providing our students access to live sessions with her, designed around the Friendology curriculum, but relevant to their current context.
The next three weeks of classes include:

You can find out more about these sessions and register by clicking the hyperlinks above or browse the website at https://urstrong.com/events/

WORK BOOKS
If you have not collected your child's workbooks (or if they are missing some!) then our classroom will be able to be accessed this week for you to come and collect.  It is advantageous that they have their school workbooks to do their home learning work in so they feel the link between school and home.  If you find the classroom door locked, head to the office and the admin staff will provide you with access.

BULK BORROWING FROM THE LIBRARY
Our lovely librarian, Mary-Lee Kemp, has offered bulk loans for children wanting extra library books to read whilst stuck at home (Limit of 10 per child).  You are welcome to come and select from the school library but chosen books will need to checked out with Mary-Lee.  She will be in the library during school hours on Tuesday and Wednesday to assist you with this.

APRIL BIRTHDAYS
A big shout out to our class members who are celebrating their special "double digit" number 10 birthday in the holidays!!!!!!!!!
Big HAPPY BIRTHDAYS and congratulations to :

Lolah and Justin - Monday the 13th of April
Max - Tuesday the 14th of April
Holly - Monday the 27th of April

Please know that your Birthdays are on our calendars and we will be thinking of you on the day!

RAINBOWS TO YOU ALL
Let's finish this week's blog with some of your lovely creations from our optional Art activity last week!
The activity was based on the "Andra Tutto Bene" ("Everything Will be Fine") movement that started in a village in northern Italy.  The people in the village started placing rainbows in their front windows so passers by could be reminded that, just like a storm, "this too shall pass."
On taking a walk with Emily and Lucy around our local neighbourhood this afternoon (and running into Mahley and his family!!), we saw many rainbows in people's windows!
We also spied a few bears to hunt along the way!  Such an easy way to bring a smile to other's faces!
Thank you to those of you who shared your artworks in your One Note Folders.
They certainly brightened my day and I hope they will brighten all of yours!
