Term 3 Week 2

Wow! Talk about starting Term 3 with a bang! We had THE BEST time on camp! The children displayed a high level of respect for themselves, each other, the instructors, O.L.C. teachers and the beautiful environment we were in!  I am sure you were left with an exhausted but happy camper on Wednesday afternoon!

The main instructor, Brooke, challenged us to think outside our normal “paradigm.”  The children overcame their negative thoughts and difficult emotions to succeed in every aspect of the camp.  For some children, the first challenge was to wave you off on Monday morning!  For others it may have been eating new food or sleeping out of their normal comfy bed!  There were obvious challenges like the “Big Fox” and “Abseiling Nursery” experiences, where some children had to move through their difficult thoughts and emotions to have a go. Others were happy as pigs in mud!  Literally mud, as I'm sure you realised when you dealt with the post camp washing pile!  We were absolutely blessed with sunshine though!

I often tell them that my favourite emotion is PROUD and my goodness I felt it so many times on camp!  The class displayed positive thinking, courage and maturity all whilst supporting and encouraging each other the whole time! I truly believe they are heading toward becoming wonderful leaders at O.L.C. in 2021.

In Visual Arts tomorrow (Tuesday) we will be completing a collage activity based on photos from camp.  Your child will be taught to access the “bank” of camp photos, so when time allows they will be able to share them with you and you can see all of the fun we got up to and how beautiful Waroona is!  Until then, here is a few happy snaps!

HOME LEARNING - WEEK 2
Please continue to assist your child in developing their good homework habits by checking that they are putting regular time into completing their home learning tasks and signing the bottom of the grid each week to indicate this.  Compulsory tasks this week are – reading every night, practising their 7 x table (by you using flashcards with them), completing 4 spelling activities with their words for the week (from 2 choices each night) and talking to you about each of the segments on their “Camp Memory Wheel” (8 memories in total).  They are to then choose at least 3 more of the activities for the week from the rest of the grid.

INTERSCHOOL Cross Country - is on this Thursday 30th July at Bunbury Grammar. We congratulate Noah, Tieg and Mahley for making the Year 5 team.

As the class are now Year 5 and a half, we are expecting great things to happen with their learning this term!  More of what our Term 3 learning will involve in next week’s blog!

Please keep Mr Lee in your thoughts and prayers as he recovers. His visits to our class and conversations in the playground are very much missed, and we hope that he is well enough to be back at school soon!

Kathy and Adrian
