Week 8
We hope everyone had a great Father's Day and hope our 5H
Dads remember to cash in their vouchers!
Voucher payment is on our homework grid this week!
Our photo day is this Thursday the 10th.
Please ensure your child is wearing their school
jumper, boys in long pants and girls with white
socks on this day. Hair
accessories must be in school colours only (teal green, white or black).
On Monday, at lunchtime representatives from the WACA hosted a CRICKET CLINIC down on the oval. A few members of 5H enjoyed learning about this sport.
The session was aimed at promoting
cricket for girls and upcoming sessions in the South West (see information below). For more information contact Rachel Norma who
is the South West contact on 0422 939 172.
WHEELIE, WALKIE, WASTE-FREE WEDNESDAY
Don't forget that our Wheelie,
Walkie, Waste -Free Wednesdays will continue each Wednesday for 2 more
weeks, week 8 & week 9.
MISSION MARKETS
On the last day of school
(Thursday the 24th of September) the children will be participating in our
annual feast day - The Assumption of Mary. Each class is asked to run a stall. We
will send out details soon regarding this.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
It's that time of year that we participate in
the 'Operation Christmas Child' shoe box initiative that has been a wonderful
OLC tradition for many years and reflects our school value of Compassion so
well. A note was sent home yesterdays with the details of what your child is
asked to bring in before Friday the 18th of September. Items are to be no longer than 20 cm long and
not too bulky as they will not fit in the shoe box.
Please see the flyer below for further information:
We are having great success
during our English Groups where the children are focused on improving both
their reading and writing. They are really
enjoying our “Would You Rather” writing and group discussion each week where in
one of their group rotations they spend 15 minutes writing their opinion of a
topic and then debate their reasoning with the rest of their group for 15
minutes. This week’s topic is “Would you
rather spend a day as a dog or a cat?”
In writing we have also improved
on our explanation writing by writing how our confectionery diagrams work. We are now moving onto to your child selecting
a body system/function (eg: the eye) that they can research and explain how it
works.
In numeracy we are focused on
the difficult concept of division and building up to representing remainders as
fractions and decimals.
In Keeping Safe Programme in
Health we have spent time exploring the Kids Helpline website. Should your child ever feel the need for extra
support with how they are feeling, it is an incredible resource. Check it out at https://kidshelpline.com.au/
In Visual Arts our collage
skills are improving. We hope you liked
their quirky Father’s Day cards, inspired by the collages of Laura Blythman. This week we will be viewing Laura’s website
to see how her artworks have been used by companies to produce many different products. After looking at two of her collage prints for
inspiration we will be creating our own vase of collage flowers.
What a busy Thursday and Friday we had with some sensational presentations and an informative and fun incursion from Mr. Nathan Omodei from Otis eyewear.
We learnt lots more about light from the incursion and it will greatly help us with our sunglasses project.
