Week 6 Term 1

 Wow this Term is flying!

We are officially beginning Week 6 tomorrow (although we missed Week 1 with our COVID lockdown) and we have already witnessed some fantastic growth in the students, especially with their growth mindsets being positive and open to their new learning.

 SWIMMING LESSONS

Swimming lessons begin tomorrow, Monday the 8th of March and run for 2 weeks.

Our classroom timetable will continue as normal with a slightly modified program to fit in around swimming lessons and an adjusted specialist timetable for the fortnight.

We will be travelling by bus with 5J to Old Dunsborough Beach and leaving school at 12:25pm, as our lesson time is 12:40pm.  The students will have a 40 minute lesson each day. Our E.T.A. back at school is 1:40.

Please note that our class will be eating lunch early during this fortnight and lunch orders will not be possible on Tuesday, Thursday or Fridays, however, recess treats from the canteen will be available as normal on those days.

SPORTS UNIFORM may be worn each day for the next fortnight.  Please note, that your child must come to school wearing their sneakers, not thongs.

Your child can wear their bathers underneath their sports uniform if they are comfortable but as our lesson is later in the day, they will be given time to get changed before we depart.

Please take the time to check that your child has what they need each day packed in a sturdy bag to carry to the lessons and that that all items are clearly labelled with their name:

·        bathers

·        rashie

·        towel

·        goggles

·        change of underwear

·        thongs to wear on the bus and at the beach

·        full water bottle with name labelled

Sunscreen will be administered before we leave school.  If your child prefers the brand you use at home then please also pack this in their swim bag, clearly labelled.

Parent Teacher Interviews

An online timetable for 5H parents will be emailed out before the end of this week with booking slots for our parent teacher interviews in week 8 and 9. Please let us know if these weeks will not be suitable for you and we can organise a time sooner in the term.

Altar Server's Note

Your child should have brought a note home last Wednesday asking for volunteers to altar serve at our Parish Masses. In volunteering, your child will display a terrific sense of community and leadership to help Father Francis in this way. ALL children must return a note to indicate if they are interested or not. If you did not find a copy of the note in your child's bag, please let me know and I will send another home.

First Aid

The wonderful Mrs Ricciardone has organised for the students of Year 5 and 6 to complete a First Aid Response course by St John of God. This is a free incursion, and each session will run for 45 minutes. Our class will have their training on Monday 22nd of March from 11.15 - 12pm.

Award Winners

Congratulations to our first 3 award winners in 5H, Alec, Elliott and Elsie.  Elsie was our Star Citizen last week for consistently displaying our school value of COMPASSION.

Homework
Thank you to those parents that signed their child’s “Home Learning Grid” in Week 4.  Please ensure you do this on a Thursday night before the students return their homework book to class on a Friday.  They do not need to bring their homework book to school each day, only on a Friday morning, when it is due.  The books are then given back out on a Monday morning for the new weekly grid to be stuck in.
Taking into consideration that the class may be tired from our swimming lesson schedule, for the next fortnight there are only 2 compulsory activities to complete on the grid:

1. Reading 20 minutes each night

2. Spelling Activities (choices on the grid)

Your child must also complete 3 optional activities each week.  This week we have added a photography challenge!

Speaking and Listening Presentations - Mr T

We've made a great start to the year with our presentations. The students who have presented so far have been fantastic - well-prepared and really interesting to listen to.

Thank you to all parents for your support in this program. The students are already showing improved and confident skills in this area. A really important life skill.

 A Final note…

The memorial service for David Clift is next Friday afternoon, the 12th of March, 1pm. at Our Lady of the Southern Cross Parish Church.  Please add Violet, Ann Marie and family to your prayers this week as they navigate through this very difficult time.
