Term 2 Week 9

We are feeling fine for Week Nine and would like to share a couple of recaps and reminders with our 5H families:

INTRODUCTORY PROGRAMME ON GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

Last Friday, we had a very informative guest speaker, Lucy, present via two Zoom sessions, the ‘I Am Nature’s Greatest Miracle,’ introductory programme, on growth and development. The boys and girls had separate presentations to engage in a programme specific to their gender needs in a safe and comfortable environment.

The session provided your child with a gentle introduction to information about their growth as they prepare to head into their next stage of development, puberty.  The groups’ behaviour throughout each session was very mature and open, with many of their wonderings being asked and answered. Hopefully, the presentation opened further discussion opportunities for you at home.  Another session will take place in Year 6.

Meals after wheels

This Tuesday, the 15th of June, the students are invited to bring their skateboards, roller-skates/blades and scooters to school for a roll around after they have eaten their lunch. If your child is joining in, please ensure they also bring appropriate safety equipment. All items are to be placed near Mr Lee's office before school and collected at the end of the day.

 Cross Country

This Thursday, the 17th of June is our O.L.C. annual Cross-Country event.  The children have been training each Friday morning for this and it is a wonderful opportunity for them to display their growth mindsets!

Please make sure that your child wears their faction shirt/sports uniform and sunscreen on this day.  They are allowed to wear colour zinc in their faction colour and are encouraged to bring team mascot teddies.

We will make our way down to the oval at 9am for a 9:15am start.  The Year 3's race will start us off and then the races will run in grade order, beginning with the Year 1's and finishing with the Year 6’s.

Providing the weather stays good, we will be out watching the other competitors and cheering our Factions on. Parents are most welcome to join us to watch, please note that the bottom gravel carpark is unavailable.

FOCUS CHARACTER STRENGTH

This week the character strength we are focusing on modelling and observing is Fairness.  Discuss with your child if they/you feel this is one of their strengths and where they might see this strength in action in other people.

 HOMEWORK

We are back to a normal 5-day school week and the children have their regular Homework Grid to complete.  This will be in their homework book.  Please encourage them to set aside a little time each night to complete their activities and sign the grid to show its completion on Thursday night, ready to hand in on Friday morning to Mr Torrese.

CHARGED LAPTOPS AND HEADPHONES

Can you please check with your child that they have a pair of working headphones at school as each week we have a number of activities that rely on them being able to watch and listen to complete activities.

Additionally, laptops coming to school charged everyday is a must. Lately there has been multiple students each day without headphones and/or charged laptops...this makes the day difficult for them and us.  Please assist them in their nightly routine of charging their computer and packing headphones into their laptop bags.

STATIONERY CHECK IN

Please check with your child if they need any stationery "top ups."  Many are without red or blue pens, pencils, glue sticks and rulers and it interrupts their own and others learning when they need to search and borrow.

 AWARD WINNER

Congratulations to Xavier. A. for being our Week 8 Year 5 Super Star Merit Award Winner!

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Kathy and Adrian
