Term 3 Week 5

 FAMILY MASS

Next Saturday night, the 21st August at 6pm at Our Lady of the Southern Cross Church is the Year Five Mass for 2021.  We hope to see as many Year Five families there as possible and remember there is pizza to share for dinner after mass!

READING EGGS BOOK WEEK COMPETITION

As part of the student's home learning grid this week, they are encouraged to read books from the Reading Eggs Library to help bump up the class' book tally for the Reading Eggs Book Week Competition.  Running from 16th August – 15th September, this competition is a wonderful one-month celebration of all things books. It is designed to open students’ eyes to the beauty of literacy and inspire them to find enjoyment in reading, writing, and practicing their skills.  The Reading Eggs Library is a great area in Reading Eggs filled with thousands of digital stories for students to enjoy. It contains books from a wide range of genres and levels to suit children of all reading abilities and with over 2500 books to choose from, there is a story for every child to enjoy!

STUDENT LAPTOP ISSUES

Student laptops have 3 year warranty coverage plus accidental damage protection. If there is any issue with your child’s laptop please bring the laptop to Mrs Johnson to be looked at and repaired (if needed). Please do not try to fix any issues yourself as any damage incurred would not be covered as accidental damage and may incur a cost to fix.

Some tips:

·       Never force the charger into the laptop – if it doesn’t fit please see Mrs Johnson.

·       Never leave items on the laptop keyboard – closing the lid with items on the keyboard will crack the screen.

·       Always store the laptop in a safe place.

Thank you

Year 5 Fundraiser LAST CALL OUT! Please send recipes to: rcrechichi@live.com The sooner we gather enough recipes the sooner we can print and sell them for OLC to receive the profits for our children to benefit from!  More main, salads and school snacks please! Thank you! From the Dunsborough Cookbook Committee

 Seesaw FAMILY APP

If you have not yet logged into a Seesaw Account, your child will be bringing home another copy of your family QR codes again.  Please ensure the App you download is SEESAW FAMILY (not classroom) so that the QR code will work.  Once you use the QR code your device should remember and access automatically.  Remember that up to 10 family members can scan the code to enjoy access to viewing your child’s work.  We also encourage to leave a comment for your child about their learning achievements.  Stay tuned this week for a new work sample.

Mission Markets & Feast Day

5H enjoyed a beautiful mass and a presentation which amazed the children with how much the school has changed and how much we have to be thankful for. A massive thank you for your support, through the fun of the mission markets, the children raised lots of money for the Catholic Mission!

ADORATION

Congratulations to 5H for participating beautifully in Adoration at the church on Friday the 6th of August.   During this time the students sat silently in reflective contemplation, praising God, asking for forgiveness, and praying for those in need. Mindfulness with a Catholic twist. A special experience for us and thank you to Father Francis for creating such a lovely space to meditate.

INTERSCHOOL

Congratulations to Matilda, Mila, Cody and Jacob for representing our school at the interschool Cross Country.  They competed against 13 other school and there were over 70 people in each race and it sounds like they all loved the experience.  Mila incredibly came first.

AWARD WINNERS… congrats to Jacob and Matilda who have been our Week 1 and Week 3 Award winners.

THIS WEEK’S VIRTUE

Currently at OLC we are focusing on modelling and observing different character strengths. This week we are looking at the strength of Humility and how we can use that well and in ways to support and encourage ourselves and others to be at their best.
