 WELCOME BACK TO TERM 4

Welcome back to Term 4 in 5H. I am so excited about getting to spend the term with all the children. I hope that you have all had a wonderful break and been able to refuel those tanks ready for a great term.

 

OUR LEARNING IN TERM 4

Reading: Our focus for Term 4 is the incredible story, WONDER, written by R.J. Palacio.  It is such a beautiful book, with incredible themes and messages throughout it. I can’t wait to dive into it with the kids.   The pages they are required to read each week will be numbered on their weekly Homework Grid.  We will be rereading sections in class to continue developing our reading comprehension skills, learn new vocabulary and explore how the author uses figurative language.

Writing: This term our focus genre is Information Reports.  The children will be exploring the structure of report writing and developing their own piece focused on a disease or illness that can affect the human body.

Spelling: We will continue to use our Soundwaves Programme to explore and learn one phoneme a week.  There are new homework activities to complete that will be explained in their homework book. Please encourage your child to practise their words each night.  As they are becoming older, their vocabulary is increasing to include more uncommon ways to spell each sound. 

Numeracy:  We will be learning about fractions, decimals and percentages, as well as revising addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. As part of our home learning the children will be allocated tasks on Mathletics that they will need to complete.

Religion:  As part of our Homework Grid the children are encouraged to complete an 8 week “Kindness Challenge” where they complete 3 acts of kindness each week.  We look forward to spreading some joy at school, home and in our community.  Our School Value Focus for Term 4 is Excellence.  We will be looking at how our Growth Mindset can help us achieve this value.  It also lends itself to explore the children’s role of O.L.C. Leaders next year and we will be completing many activities to prepare them for this.

Health:  We will be looking at the Human Body as well as continuing our Keeping Safe and Friendology Programmes.

Visual Arts:  We will be learning to draw self-portraits, concentrating on sketching techniques of facial features.

REMINDERS

Laptops 

Please also remind your child to pop them on charge ready for Monday.

Summer Uniform

We will be back in summer uniform as of Monday. There is a two week swap over period, so long pants are still welcome as the weather is still cool!

Hats

Please make sure that your child has their hat ready to go.

Stationery Restock

Please take a moment to check in with your child to make sure they have red and blue pens, a ruler, scissors and a glue stick at school.  They need these items to be organised learners.  This term they also need a black fine liner for art.

  • 24th November - OLC AGM: All parents are welcome to attend.
  • 7th December - Christmas Concert @ 5.30pm.
  • 10th December - Colour Run and Conclusion of Term 4.

Term 4 Week 7

  The following recount was written collaboratively by Paige, Georgia, Flynn,  Tieg, Justin, Jasper, Jeremy, Joe, Mahley and Noah. It is Part One of our Cape Naturaliste Experience!!   On Monday the 16 th of November we went to the historical Cape Naturalise National Park.  We travelled by bus and it took 11 minutes to get to this magnificent location!       First of all, we met Josh Whiteland, who is a Wardandi Custodian of the local region.  Wardandi means “forest people by the sea.” He calls the land "country".  Aboriginal people see “country” as being like a mother.  It gives to them what they need and protects them.  Respect of country is the backbone of Noongar people. Josh learned all of his knowledge from Aboriginal elders in our region.  He encouraged us to make a “connection to country” where we can become “cultural custodians” thus developing our own identity and sense of belonging to the place in which we live.   Josh led us on a brilliant bushwalk (approx

Week 9, Term 4

 Week 9, Term 4!  Great job on making it to week nine guys. Only a few more days to go and the kids will be soaking up that Summer Sun.  What a great term we have had. I honestly feel so blessed to have worked with your children this term. They are a brilliant bunch of souls who are going to soar in Grade Six.  Just a couple of reminders for this week.  Christmas Concert : As mentioned previously, the Christmas Concert is taking place this Tuesday 7th December. It commences at 6pm, so please  ensure that your child comes to class by 5.40pm.  As a class we will walk down together and into our places, while you can find a nice spot on the hill to settle back and enjoy the show. St Vinnie's Donations: A reminder that we are collecting Christmas food and decorative items...if you can please have them in  by Wednesday , we would be very appreciative! Many families have contributed, however if you haven't as yet it is a great yet simple way to give back during the festive season. Hel
